It’s time the media treated Muslims fairly

More than 100 people were killed when a crane collapsed in Mecca earlier this month. Mail Online saw fit to include references to Osama bin Laden and 9/11 in the headline of its story about the disaster.

There have been some times where Muslims have been discriminated and seen as bad people. There was a heading which said “Muslim gang slashes tyres of immigration-raid van” . The Daily mail has apologised for this heading as it was something that didn't need to be said and did cause harm to many Muslim people as they are being portrayed as bad people. This was made after an attack on immigrants in east London .  The writer gave many recent and old stories of where Muslims have been attacked by a columnist. They want to make sure that this is prevented in the future.

  • Muslim community” and “Muslim youths” – even though the faith of the perpetrators was not known, nor relevant.
  • linked their deaths to Osama bin Laden and 9/11 inits headline“At least 87 people killed … after giant crane ‘operated by Bin Laden firm’ collapses … on anniversary of 9/11 attacks”
  • And what better way to get people to read an article than by linking it to the far-right narrative that Islam  is evil, and that its adherents need to be civilised to become “good Muslims”?
  • 37% of British people who were surveyed admitted they would support policies to reduce the number of Muslims in the country.
  • This “othering” of Muslims has also manifested itself in a growth in hate crime: a 70%rise in the past year according to the Metropolitan police.
I think that Muslims aren't being seen fairly in the media as they are branded as a whole. This means that when some or one person who is a Muslim does something bad, they are all portrayed as bad too. This isn't fair as they are people too and its not all of them its only some. The ones that are being bad are the ones that should get in trouble and not the other ones. They should be the ones that go to prison or admit to what they did.

Google AMP battles ad-blocking, Apple and Facebook by cutting load times

Google.

Google want to try and counter the threat from ad-blocking and rivals Facebook and Apple by radically improving the loading speed of web pages on smartphones and tablets. This means that they want to try and get rid of adverts that are happening on apps, smartphones, tablets, etc. A date hasn't been set yet on which they want to launch this.Google’s head of news and social products Richard Gingras said: “This is about making the world wide web great again ... to make sure all users can access the vibrant ecosystem of the world wide web, and get it in a near instant fashion everywhere in the world.” This means that they want to be unique and try and do more as a company.
  • The project is partly a response to the launch of Facebook Instant Articles and Apple News, both of which allow newspapers, magazines and digital media companies to publish content directly to their platforms.
  • Apple allowed third party apps to block ads in its Safari web browser last month, which is expected to massively increase the number of people deciding to block ads on iPhones and iPads.
I think that  having the ad blocker is a good thing as it wont annoy the audience as much as then they wont have to worry about it interrupting what they are doing. Having this does help as some people just want to search without having other things popping up at them. This does make them focus on what they want and making sure that they don't want to see other things that wont matter to them.
